Anyway SAMURAIDVD has put out SON OF BLACK MASS VOL 2 . This includes films 5,6,7,8 in the NEMURI series . Lets face it this is one of the greatest Samurai Film series ever made ,if you have not seen a NEMURI film Shame on you . Now is the time for you all to conclude one of the greatest film series ever made . go to SAMURAI DVD and get a special price from the newsletter .

Kind of a drag, what with all the work that Merlin has invested in the Nemuri Kyoshiro series, but AnimEigo has announced earlier this month that they are planning on releasing the first four films in a DVD box set (I wonder where they got that idea). Posts: 365 01/30/09 23:22:36 Roju (Administrator)	It's a shame that AnimEigo once again picks up license for stuff that has been released over and over, even digitally remastered 16 : 9 fansubbed. I mean, if you as a customer had the choice, 4 rereleased Nemuri movies, or 4 never seen with subtitles before Raizo movies? EASY! There are literary 1000's of rare samurai titles from Toho, Daiei, Toei, Nikattus etc to subtitle, why can't they pick something new? I support AnimEigo any day of the week, but damn it... it's kind of frustrating knowing that we will be stuck (waiting) with their Nemuri and Shinobi no mono releases for years to come. And what's next after that... a re-release of Lone Wolf series on Bluray perhaps...?? //KageShogun

Now i agree on the Animeigo issue they are getting as bad as Criterion with their endless Akira Fixation . Instead of churning out more versions of films we know every last frame off how about picking up something like that Samurai Executioner Film ,considering they have a major Lone Wolf fixation anyway .

"Son of the Black Mass" is certainly more befitting the character, but...there's no accounting for opinions. AnimEigo is great, but I have to agree that its a little disappointing to see them not only rehash the title they originally picked up and then dropped...but to do so when there are already very high quality versions of these films available. Better if they focused on something similar but not already saturating the market (niche though it is). ---------- 'The appearance of self is actually no appearance. Posts: 188 02/02/09 09:22:32	The initial name for this series in English subtitled 35 mm prints was "The Full Moon Swordsman" series, and otherwise as the Kyoshiro Nemuri series. It was only known distantly as the Son of the Black Mass series since his origins weren't even incorporated in the early episodes and only occasionally a big deal after. It was never known as Sleepy Eyes of Death until released as such on fairly poor vhs copies a decade ago or so.
