I just received my copies of THIRD SHADOW featuring Raizo Ichikawa and JIROCHO FUJI starring Raizo Ichikawa and Shintaro Katsu (with others) from CK a couple days ago. I am really looking forward to watching both of them very soon.
I am still waiting upon the DVDs from the February Update order, which also includes a bunch of films I am looking forward to seeing.
On a side note, I broke down and bought an inexpensive copy of the revised 4th edition of Thomas Weisser's Japanese Cinema: Essential Handbook. I do have one thing to say about it - if I worked in a library, I would definitely file it in the humor section, not with the film reference books. Weisser is very obviously not a fan of jidei geki or chanbara related films, and (as mentioned in most reviews of this book) has probably not seen most of the films reviewed in his book which fall within those genre. It makes me wish all the more for Paghat to make available a book collecting her essays and reviews of films within the Jidei geki, chanbara, and matatabi genres. It also makes me wish Stone Bridge would hurry up and release Patrick Galloway's Warring Clans, Flashing Blades: A Samurai Film Guidebook.
I believe that we should start a special thread were we can share Weisser's extremely funny reviews, because they are so so bad that they end up being truly hilarious.
